Altidore joins Puebla - Signed multi-million deal with New England Revolution this winter
New England Revolution have loaned out US men's national team striker Jozy Altidore to Liga MX side Puebla. First reported by Fabrizio Romano, The Athletic have since confirmed that a deal was imminent. The 32-year-old is set to be loaned until the end of the 2022 Major League Soccer season. Puebla confirmed Thursday night as well.
Altidore joined the New England Revolution after he was bought out by Toronto FC last winter. The 115-times national team player (42 goals) then signed a three-year $5 million deal with the Revolution. The striker expressed ambition to use his return to New England to push for a spot in the national team but has struggled this season under head coach Bruce Arena scoring just one goal in 17 games.
Puebla are currently fifth in the Liga MX Apertura standings. The club is also desperate for a typical no.9 and offered Altidore a significant chance for playing time. The Athletic reported on Thursday that the 32-year-old is pushing for a move.
