According to the August 12, 1955 edition of the Indische courant, Fortuna 54's management did not want to risk their fate at the end of the Dutch League competition without a good goalkeeper. So, the club introduced van der Vin, who happened to be in the Netherlands, as their new goalkeeper - an amateur player under Persija's dispensation. Upon his return to Indonesia, van der Vin was not long for Persija and UMS - a member club of Persija.
The March 18, 1988 issue of Kompas Daily carried a news story that suggested that Van der Vin went through the naturalization process. The news was reported that Van der Vin, who was 64 years old, read the oath of allegiance to Indonesia at the Cianjur District Court Building, March 17, 1988.
