Eriksen after eleven months at Inter Milan: “This is not what I dreamed of”
Christian Eriksen joined Inter Milan from Tottenham as the most valuable player of the complete winter transfer window in January 2020. The Nerazzurri paid a fee of €27 million for the 28-year-old fees despite only six months remaining on his contract – just under eleven months later the Dane is not a regular starter at the Serie A club and often finds himself on the bench, with his market value having dropped from €90 million to €50 million as a result.
“This is not what I dreamed of,” Eriksen told the Danish TV channel TV2. In numbers: Out of 900 possible minutes, he was on the pitch for only 301 minutes this season. “It’s a strange situation because the fans want to see me play more and I want that too, but the coach has other ideas and as a player I have to respect them.” The attacking midfielder’s contract, which runs until 2024, puts him on a salary level with Inter’s top striker Romelu Lukaku and makes him one of the top five highest paid Serie A players.
Eriksen’s performance in the Inter shirt made did not make it too difficult for head coach Antonio Conte to abstain from using the Dane more often. In the second half of the 2019/20 season, he was directly involved in seven goals in 26 matches – this season he has zero goal involvements so far – at Spurs these figures were significantly higher. “I’m focussing on my game, and when the transfer window opens, we will see if something happens or not,” Eriksen said.
