Liga Portugal in-news EN

To begin with, it is important to point out that there are important changes at the top of the list of the most valuable players in the Liga Portugal, as you can see in the gallery below. Gonçalo Ramos is still the player with the highest market value, but is now on an equal footing with Manuel Ugarte, with both demanding a market value of €50 million after both receiving significant increases in this update. At 22 years of age, Sporting's Uruguayan midfielder has just completed the season with a number of excellent performances, having been a key piece in the team guided by Rúben Amorim. Ugarte made 31 league appearances - 47 across all competitions - and is on his way to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window, where he will continue his development. He was the player with the biggest increase in value in this update, with a rise of €25m.

In similar circumstances, Benfica striker Ramos had the best season of his career. Although the striker’s goals were less notable towards the end of the season, he still helped his team to the league championships for the first time since 2019. All while picking up an impressive tally of 19 goals in 30 games for the Lisbon club. As such, his market value has increased dramatically by €10m as we enter a transfer window which will likely see him continue to be linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Silva, Edwards and Otávio - Increases at Portugal’s big three clubs

Sticking with Benfica, another star that saw his value dramatically increase was central defender António Silva, whose market value rose from €25m to €45m. At only 19 years of age, the young defender has won a place as an indisputable starter in Roger Schmidt's team, and today he is one of the most promising central defenders in European soccer. He played 30 games in the championship, scoring three goals. João Neves and Alexander Bah also thrived for the league champions this season and as such saw their values also increase.

Elsewhere, Sporting saw a number of players get notable increases in market value, including Pedro Gonçalves, Marcus EdwardsGonçalo Inácio and Ousmane Diomande. While at Porto club captain Otávio was perhaps the biggest winner from the update for his side, following a €5m upgrade to €35m for the midfielder.

Guedes down, Navarro up - Big changes across the league

Among the biggest decreases in value carried out in this update, there is one name that stands out from the rest: Gonçalo Guedes. Loaned by Wolves to Benfica in January, the Portuguese international was plagued by injuries and proved to be unable to make the expected contribution to his new side. Mateus Uribe, confirmed as an Al-Sadd signing for 2023/24, Mehdi Taremi and even David Carmo were other players who lost the most value since the last market value update. Despite being the league's top scorer, the Iranian striker will celebrate his 31st birthday next July, so the chances of a significant sale decrease with each passing day.

Outside the so-called “Big Three”, the player that stood out the most was Fran Navarro. The 25-year-old Spaniard picked up 17 goals in 34 matches for Gil Vecente in the league and is reportedly close to signing for Porto. As such, his market value has increased to €13m. Elsewhere, Braga trio Abel Ruiz, Simon BanzaBruma and André Horta all received big increases, alongside André Amaro and Ibrahima Bamba from Vitória SC and Iván Jaime fromFamalicão.

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
