Chelsea transfer news: How much will Chelsea make from summer transfer sales?

Regardless of how Chelsea finish this season from hell, there’s little doubt that Todd Boehly and the club’s management will have to put in long shifts and work into the small hours of the morning to ensure that they can get the Stamford Bridge side back on track after the forthcoming summer transfer window.

While the club will be keen to add more talent to a squad that has performed well below par, Chelsea will also have to sell off huge portions of their current roster to ensure the correct amount of income to offset the spending that has taken place under Boehly’s tenure. According to the Athletic, the Premier League giants will have until June 30 to sell as many unwanted stars as they can.

So how much money could Chelsea make from this coming summer transfer window and what stars are likely to be sold to ensure the club are on a sound financial footing, whilst also rebuilding a squad that can get back to winning ways in the English top-flight? After putting to one side players that have contracts that are expiring this summer, let’s break it all down and take a closer look.

Mendy, Azpilicueta and Cucurella? Chelsea defenders for sale

While Chelsea are currently seen as a top-heavy team, there are a number of players in defence and between the posts that could and most likely will be sold this summer to raise funds. The most likely candidate is Marc Cucurella, who continues to underperform at the club and is now second fiddle to Ben Chilwell, when the England international is fit and able to play.

Similarly, a number of new central defender signings could spell the end of the road for players like Ethan AmpaduMalang Sarr and even Trevoh Chalobah. While reports suggest that the club are far from happy with either senior goalkeepers Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga and are likely to sell both and bring in another shot-stopper. As the graphic above shows, selling these players including a few others at market value could net the club €125 million.

Gallagher, Kovacic and Mount? Chelsea midfielders for sale

While Chelsea don’t have a huge number of midfielders and are likely to invest heavily in signing more this summer, there are a few stand-out stars in the middle of the pitch for the Stamford Bridge side this season that could be moved on in the coming months. For example, Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have been heavily linked with the exit door in recent months and could net around €60m between them.

However, Chelsea may also have to contend with bigger stars leaving too. Mateo Kovacic continues to be linked with a departure from the club and young star Mason Mount’s future remains in doubt due to the player still not signing a contract extension with the club. If the aforementioned pair do force moves this summer alongside a handful of other midfielders, Chelsea could make no less than €165m in the transfer window.

Lukaku, Havertz and Pulisic? Chelsea forwards for sale

It goes without saying that Chelsea have amassed a truly ridiculous roster of forward players, with no hope of ever giving each of them enough game time next season. As such, this is where the bulk of the club’s summer sale will come from with up to no less than eight potential stars being sold at the end of the season.

There are some obvious names, such as Romelu LukakuHakim Ziyech and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but there’s also just as likely a chance that bigger stars like Raheem SterlingKai Havertz and Christian Pulisic will push for moves to clubs that are guaranteed to playing in the Champions League next season. Couple them all together and there’s every chance that Chelsea could make €274m from selling their forwards this summer.
