The history of Peruvians at Bayern Munich isn’t very long, but in Claudio Pizarro and Paolo Guerrero, two left a significant footprint on the club. The former, in particular, is a major reason why theBundesliga remains one of the most popular leagues in South America’s third-largest country. In Felipe Chávez, a talent is now looking to continue the story.

Born in 2007 in Augsburg to a Peruvian father and German mother, Chávez, who is the nephew of the former professional Víctor Chávez, made his initial steps as a player at FC Augsburg. But it wouldn’t be long until Bayern Munich recognized his talent and aged only 12, the now 17-year-old moved to the Bavarian capital to join the academy of the German record champions.

At Bayern, his development has been progressing well. Chávez is a small player, a whirlwind of an attacking player, measured at just 168cm. Already a few years ago, videos of the young talent appeared online, which caught attention because of his small size but also his incredible one-v-one dribbles.

Chávez can play on both wings but also as a no.10, and his repertoire now goes beyond just being an excellent dribbler. In fact, over the last few years, he has developed as a strategic player who can guide a game while playing behind one or two center-forwards and is also a goalscoring threat himself. Playing in the U17 Bundesliga, the two-footed talent has scored ten goals and three assists in 16 games.

Talents Calendar Day 22: Felipe Chávez

With that in mind, it isn’t surprising that Chávez, who has both a Peruvian and German passport, is already in the notebooks of the German Football Federation (DFB) and was already nominated for the U15. But at the start of the year, he made the switch to the country of his father to represent Peru’s U17, for whom he played two games at the U17 South American Championship in Ecuador.

In the upcoming years, Chávez wants to make the jump to Bayern’s first team and write the next chapter in the story started by Pizarro and Guerrero. The fact that the talent is trying to actively follow in the footsteps of his idols highlights his jersey number. At Bayern, Chávez wears the no.14—the same number Pizarro wore during his time at Bayern between 2001 and 2007 and from 2012 to 2015.

From December 1 to 24, we introduce new players from different countries born in 2006 and 2007. Area managers, users, and data scouts come into play as experts throughout the series. You can follow all those players by adding them to your TM watchlist.
